You would never leave your home without locking the door, right?
You realize the potential costs involved if someone came in without your permission and stole what belonged to you. You understand what could happen if you left your home and everything in it unprotected.
What about your website?
Most of us are pretty trusting. If you’re thinking, “Who would want to hack MY website? What would they want from ME?” then think again.
Hackers don’t always want money. They might use you and your site to get to someone who DOES have what they want.
Hackers look for low hanging fruit, easy targets, sites that are not protected.
They may be a 13-year-old who has nothing better to do, or they may just have a mean streak in them.
They may want to send spam email via your site, gain access to your data, mailing list, credit card information.
It’s hard to say what their motives are, but one thing is for sure: while you sit around trying to figure out WHY they do it, you could be their next victim.
Lost Time and Money
How many hours did you put into building your site? Conversely, how much money went into having someone else build it?
It’s pretty devastating to put a lot of time and hard work into a website only to have someone hack into it.
You don’t want to spend painstaking hours starting all over again do you? Of course not.
So don’t let this happen to you!
Lost Customers
Think about it from your customers’ point of view. If you went to your site and it had a “hacked” message on it or a white screen, what would YOU do? Try to contact the business owner or web designer? Probably not. You would move onto another site.
And you wouldn’t come back!
You can prevent this from happening!
How Confident Are You That Your Site is Secure?
In 2012, 170,000 WordPress sites were hacked!
In 2013, Forbes reported that 30,000 sites were identified EVERY DAY that were innocently distributing malicious code.
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use WordPress. It means we need to be diligent about protecting our site.
Software updates are released primarily to patch vulnerabilities. It’s important to pay attention when these updates become available and install them promptly… before a hacker takes action!
When was the last time you updated your plugins, theme, or WordPress core? Do you even know when to do it? Or how to do it?
Even if you do know HOW to do the updates, will you follow through and update on a regular basis?

Here’s what one customer said about my security audit:
I don’t have the time or knowledge to keep hackers out of my site. I am so grateful that Cheryl does. It allows me to focus on my business, something I DO know about. ~Anya Petersen-Frey, Summerland Publishing
