The most important thing you can do to keep your WordPress site secure is by running the newest version of the core, theme, and plugins.
Updates are released primarily to patch vulnerabilities; they are not usually for cosmetic purposes. Some vulnerabilities offer free access to your backend database (with your login information), the admin account itself, or just the ability to upload arbitrary code.
So it’s important to pay attention when these updates become available and install them promptly… before a hacker takes action.
How do you know when there’s been an update?
Sign into the backend of your site every day. The dashboard will indicate if any updates have become available.
Too busy to do that yourself? I can help you. I offer a Peace of Mind plan that keeps the core, theme and plugins updated and it includes regular backups.
Updates reduce the threat of being hacked and backups provide a way to get back up and running should your site go down.
