Did you realize that if you have a virus on your computer when you work on the backend of your WordPress website it can infect your site?
You have no doubt heard lots of stories about people whose computer got hacked, right?
Sometimes you know the exact moment you were attacked… perhaps when you opened an email. But other times you have no idea, because something could get installed automatically and you don’t know it until you restart your computer.
Scary stuff!
You sure don’t want the first clue that your website was hacked to be when you get a totally white screen instead of your site, or worse yet a message that you’ve been hacked.
Prevent Viruses From Infecting Your Computer
So the first step to prevent this is to use a reputable virus scanner on your computer, such as Norton or McAfee. They quarantine and/or destroy the virus or malware.
I thank my lucky stars that I paid for the service. My Norton lets me know immediately when there’s been an attempt to gain access to my computer. It’s actually exciting to get these notifications! It reassures me that the software is doing its job.
Whatever antivirus program you choose, remember
One thing to be aware of is that the only viruses that can be caught are the ones that have been identified. Thousands have been identified, but hackers work overtime it seems to create new ones. Virus scanners have to work just as hard to keep pace.
