Are you busy but not going anywhere?
Do you get easily sidetracked when trying to work your business?
You’ve no doubt heard about setting five and ten year goals, but that can be overwhelming when you can’t even decide what to do today or this week.
And how do you know that your efforts will move you in the ‘right’ direction?
Would you ever set out on a journey but not have a destination? How will you know you’ve arrived?
Even if your goal is to maintain your house in case you want to sell it down the road, you’ve set a long-term goal, right? So that daily to-do list isn’t about busy work, is it? Isn’t it about keeping the house in salable condition?
So why do we treat our businesses any different? Did you start a business so you could be busy or was it to have a lifestyle, or maybe to make a difference in the world?
Start with the big goal and work backward.
Kavetha does a great job of setting the stage for this in Why Working Backwards is the Best Way to Reach Your Goals.
- Make the end goal your starting point
- Create a big vision which incorporates your values and dreams
- Draw a road map from there to where you’re at now.
Instead of a vague to-do list, you will have a personalized plan, one you’re much less likely to give up on mid way.
