It is not what happens to you that counts. It is how you react to what happens to you.
You’ve heard that before. But do you believe it? Change your attitude and you will change how you view things.
There are four things that will allow you to take charge of your attitude.
- Focus on the future.
If you focus on the past … people who hurt you, or the things that have happened to you, you will remain bitter and angry. If you focus on the future … where you want to be, what you want to do, you will move toward the positive. - Think about the solution.
Focusing on the solution instead of the problem automatically puts you in a positive frame of mind. Take action to resolve the issue instead of wallowing in self pity and your life will open up to new possibilities. - Look for the good.
Norman Vincent Peal said, “Whenever God wants to give us a gift, he wraps it up in a problem.” If you look for the gift, you will find it. - Seek the lesson.
What lesson did you learn from whatever it is that happened to you? What will you do, or what won’t you do, as a result? There are lessons all around us, you just have to look for them.
If you are accustomed to being miserable as the results of events in your life, it will be difficult to change your mindset. But I guarantee it is worth the work you put into changing your attitude and your outlook on life.
